Meltwater pricing: contracts, quotes and cheaper tools

Meltwater pricing is quote-only, with a 12 month minimum contract. What Meltwater says, what Vendr reports buyers pay, and cheaper monitoring tools.

Meltwater pricing is not published. Meltwater says every quote is customised to your goals, the modules you choose and the scale of your programme, and that most agreements run for a minimum of 12 months. The best public guide to the number is Vendr, which reports a median of $25,800 a year across 126 Meltwater purchases, ranging from $5,375 to $56,993.

Meltwater's pricing page was read on 4 October 2026 and showed no figures. Other prices on this page were read from each vendor's own pricing page the same day.

What Meltwater says about its pricing

Meltwater is more open about how it prices than what it charges. From its own page:

  • Tiers. Starter, Pro, Enterprise and Agency, with no published prices or limits.
  • What moves the price. "The breadth of sources and regions you want to monitor, volume of data and workflows, number of users, integrations, onboarding and support needs, and contract terms."
  • Contract length. "Most partnerships are structured on annual agreements, with a minimum contract length of 12 months."
  • Changes mid-contract. Adding modules, expanding coverage or adjusting usage is "handled on a case-by-case basis".
  • Setup costs. Enterprise or complex setups "may" carry a one-time implementation or onboarding charge.
  • Trial. None. Meltwater offers a free demo instead.

So the minimum real commitment is a year, and the price is set by the scope you describe on the sales call.

Meltwater pricing: what buyers report

Vendr's Meltwater page is the only named public source of figures we found:

MeasureReported by Vendr
Median spend$25,800 a year
Low$5,375 a year
High$56,993 a year
Purchases in the sample126
Average saving buyers achieved15%

Vendr also reports that Meltwater contracts often include annual price escalation clauses of typically 3 to 7% a year, and that multi-year commitments of two to three years commonly bring 10 to 20% off. Those are Vendr's observations, not Meltwater's published terms.

The wide range fits Meltwater's own list of price drivers. A single-country brand watching news coverage is likely to sit near the bottom, and a multi-region programme with social, integrations and many users near the top.

Building your own estimate

Use Meltwater's own price drivers as a checklist and answer each before the demo:

  1. Sources and regions. News only, or social too? One country or ten?
  2. Volume. How many brands, competitors and topics? How many mentions do you get today?
  3. Users. Who needs a login, not who might like one.
  4. Integrations. Do you need data flowing into another system, or will email reports do?
  5. Onboarding and support. Self-sufficient, or do you need training and an account manager?

With those written down, you can hold different vendors to the same brief and spot a quote padded with modules you did not ask for.

Negotiating a Meltwater contract

General advice for a 12-month minimum, not a description of Meltwater's own terms:

  • Ask for the escalation clause up front. If Vendr's 3 to 7% figure applies to your contract, a cap is worth asking for.
  • Write down the renewal date and notice period. An annual agreement you forget to cancel becomes a second year.
  • Price one year and two years. Then decide whether the multi-year discount is worth losing the exit.
  • Get the onboarding fee waived or itemised. Meltwater says it applies to complex setups, so a simple setup should not carry one.

Cheaper monitoring with published prices

ToolEntry priceBest for
BuzzSumo PR & Comms$239 a month annual, $299 monthlyMedia database, outreach and coverage reports, 5 users
Brand24 Individual$199 a month annual, $249 monthlyMentions across social, news and the web

Talkwalker AlertsFreeEmail alerts on news, blogs and forums

For a PR team, BuzzSumo's PR & Comms plan is the closest published-price match to the media side of Meltwater. For brand mentions, Brand24 is. The brand monitoring guide shows how far the free tools go, and free social listening tools covers more. Brandwatch is the other big quote-only option; see Brandwatch pricing. The Meltwater alternatives page compares the field.

If the reason you looked at Meltwater was to track competitors rather than press coverage, Figo reports each competitor's new pages, ads, social posts and reviews every Monday for $49 a month for three competitors. Ours, so judge accordingly. It does not monitor news or media and is no substitute for a PR tool.

When Meltwater is the right buy

Meltwater earns a year's contract when media coverage across several countries is part of how your team is judged, and someone will use it every day. If you need to know when your name appears in the news, start with the free alerts and a published-price tool, and only call Meltwater once you have outgrown them.

Questions people ask

Does Meltwater have a free trial?

No. Meltwater says it does not offer a self-serve free trial. It offers a free demo with one of its product experts instead.

Can I cancel Meltwater after a few months?

Plan on not being able to. Meltwater says most agreements are annual with a minimum contract length of 12 months, so read the notice and renewal terms before you sign.

Is there a setup fee?

Sometimes. Meltwater says enterprise solutions and complex setups, such as custom integrations, data imports or multi-region configurations, may carry a one-time implementation or onboarding charge.

What is the difference between Meltwater Starter, Pro, Enterprise and Agency?

Meltwater names those four tiers but publishes no prices or limits for them. Each is quoted to your scope, so ask what each tier includes during the demo.
