The best Meltwater alternatives in 2026
Meltwater is quote only, usually on a 12 month contract. These Meltwater alternatives cover media monitoring, journalist lists and listening, some with prices.
Meltwater sells media monitoring, social listening, a media database, press distribution and PR reporting on tailored, quote-only pricing, usually on a 12 month contract. Meltwater alternatives split into enterprise suites that sell the same way (Cision, Muck Rack, Brandwatch, Talkwalker) and tools with prices on the page for teams that need less.
Prices below were read from each vendor's own pricing page on 4 October 2026. Meltwater, Cision, Muck Rack, Brandwatch, Talkwalker and Mention published none.
Why people look for Meltwater alternatives
The contract. Meltwater's pricing page says most partnerships are annual agreements with a 12 month minimum. If the tool is not working for you by month three, you are still paying in month twelve.
The price is a negotiation. The page lists what drives it: the modules you choose, sources, regions, data volume, number of users, integrations and support. Complex setups such as custom integrations or multi-region configurations may carry a one-time onboarding charge. Two teams on the same plan name can pay very different amounts.
Breadth you may not need. Sources and regions are priced factors. If you only care about online news in one market, make sure the quote reflects that rather than a global package.
The fair side: few vendors put media monitoring, a journalist database, press distribution, social listening and PR reporting under one contract. For a PR team that would otherwise run three tools and reconcile three sets of numbers, that is worth paying for.

Cision, the most direct swap
Cision shows "Request pricing" for CisionOne, its media intelligence platform, and PR Newswire distribution is a separate product, also priced on request. Cision also owns Brandwatch, so one supplier can cover press, distribution and social listening.
Pick Cision if wire distribution matters to you and you want it from the same company as your monitoring.
Muck Rack, for journalist relationships
Muck Rack is quote only and explains why in its own FAQ. It sells three plans for brands and three for agencies, priced partly on the number of users. Starter excludes podcast monitoring and limits media list exports. Standard adds podcast monitoring and AI journalist recommendations. Premier adds custom dashboards, AI sentiment and an API. Print and broadcast monitoring, social listening and press release distribution are add-ons.
Pick Muck Rack if pitching and journalist relationships are the core of the job, and monitoring is secondary.
Brandwatch or Talkwalker, if social matters more than press
Both are quote only. Brandwatch, part of Cision, sells Consumer Intelligence for researchers and analysts. Talkwalker, owned by Hootsuite since 2024, sells three plans scaled by volume of results, all with unlimited users. See Brandwatch alternatives for that side of the market.
Pick one of these if your Meltwater use was mostly social listening, and press coverage is a smaller part of it.
Brand24, for online mentions on a budget
Brand24 publishes every tier. Individual is $199 a month billed annually ($249 monthly) for three keywords, 2,000 mentions a month and one user. Team is $299 annually ($349 monthly) with seven keywords, 10,000 mentions and unlimited users. The trial is 14 days with no card, and monthly billing is an option.
It is not a PR suite: no journalist database and no distribution. Mention now belongs to Agorapulse and sells a single Company plan through a demo, so there is no published price to compare. Our Mention alternatives page has the detail.
Pick Brand24 if you mainly need to know when you are mentioned online and can do your own outreach.
BuzzSumo PR & Comms, for a database with a price
BuzzSumo's PR & Comms plan is $299 a month billed monthly or $239 billed annually, with five users, five alerts, a media database and outreach, coverage reports and Slack. It is lighter than Cision or Muck Rack on journalist data, and it also gives you BuzzSumo's content research. Plans are in BuzzSumo pricing.
Pick BuzzSumo if you are a small PR or content team that needs a media list and coverage reports without an annual negotiation.
The free floor
Google Alerts and Talkwalker Alerts are free and email you new online coverage of a name. No contacts, no reporting, no broadcast. For a small company getting a few articles a year, that may genuinely be all the media monitoring it needs. The setup is in the brand monitoring guide.
Where Figo fits
Ours, so judge accordingly. Figo is not a PR tool. It does not monitor press coverage, hold journalist contacts or distribute releases, so it is not a Meltwater alternative for PR work.
The only overlap is competitive intelligence. If part of why you bought Meltwater was to keep an eye on competitors, note that press coverage is only one signal. Figo checks each competitor every week for new pages, pricing changes, Google, Meta and TikTok ads, Instagram and Facebook posts, Reddit threads and reviews. Plans start at $49 a month for three competitors.
When Meltwater is the right answer
- You run PR across several markets. Regions and sources are what Meltwater prices for, and what it is built to cover.
- You want monitoring, database, distribution and reporting on one contract. Few rivals bundle all of them.
- You are an agency. Meltwater lists a dedicated Agency plan alongside PR reporting.
What drives a Meltwater quote is covered in Meltwater pricing.
The short answer
For a like for like PR suite, talk to Cision and Muck Rack, and expect quotes there too. If social listening was the real use, look at Brandwatch or Talkwalker. If you need online mentions or a media list with a price on the page, Brand24 or BuzzSumo's PR plan will do it without a 12 month commitment.
