BuzzSumo pricing starts at $159 a month billed annually, or $199 month to month, for the Content Creation plan with one user. PR & Comms is $239 annually ($299 monthly) for five users, Suite is $399 ($499) for ten, and Enterprise is $999 a month on annual billing only. There is no free plan.

Prices below were read from each vendor's own pricing page on 4 October 2026. BuzzSumo's is at buzzsumo.com/pricing.

PR & Comms$299$239553 years
Suite (most popular)$499$39910105 years
EnterpriseAnnual only$99930505 years

The page says annual billing saves 20%, which it shows as $478 a year on Content Creation, $718 on PR & Comms and $1,198 on Suite. Searches, exports and saved projects are unlimited on every plan.

What each plan limits

Users. The jump that hurts is from one to two people. Content Creation is a single login, so a second user means PR & Comms at $239 a month annually, $80 more. After that the user caps are generous: five, ten and thirty.

Alerts. Two alerts on the entry plan is tight. If you want one alert on your brand and one on each of three competitors, you need four, which is PR & Comms.

History. Content Creation searches two years back, PR & Comms three and Suite five. For spotting what is working now, two years is plenty. For "how has this topic changed since 2021", it is not.

Trending feeds. Two, 15, 30 and 50 by plan. These are saved topic feeds of what is getting shared right now.

PR features. Media lists and outreach start on PR & Comms, at 20 journalists per list, rising to 100 on Suite and 600 on Enterprise. The table shows article monitoring at 2,000 articles a month and 10,000 a month on the higher plans. Coverage reports and the Slack integration sit with this PR set too. If you do no media outreach, none of this is worth paying for.

The research tools are the core of the product: the Content Analyzer (BuzzSumo says it indexes 8+ billion pieces of content), the Question Analyzer across forums such as Reddit and Quora, the Topic Explorer, a keyword tool and a backlink analyzer.

Hidden costs and the refund rule

There are no add-ons listed, so the hidden costs are in the terms.

No pro-rata refunds. The FAQ is blunt: you can cancel any time but "you will still be charged for the full duration of your subscription". Cancel an annual plan after two months and you have paid for twelve. Cancel a monthly plan on day ten and you have paid for the month.

Annual is a real commitment. Because of that rule, only pay annually once the trial and a month or two of monthly billing have proved you use it every week.

Enterprise is annual only. $999 a month means $11,988 on one annual bill, which is the one plan you can pay by invoice.

Free trial

Every plan card has a "Start Trial" button, but the page does not say how long the trial lasts or whether it needs a card. Check both on the sign-up screen.

Plan the trial around one real project. Pick a competitor's blog and a topic you are about to write on, and see whether the Content Analyzer and Question Analyzer tell you something you could not get free. If they do not, the subscription will not either.

What a small team actually needs

Say you are a small content team publishing four posts a month.

  • One researcher: Content Creation at $159 a month annually is enough. Two alerts covers your brand and your closest rival.
  • Two to five people, or more than two alerts: PR & Comms at $239 a month annually. You pay for the PR tools whether you use them or not, but it is the cheapest way to add a second user.
  • Suite earns its price only if you use the PR side properly, or need five years of history.

A cheaper pattern for occasional users: subscribe monthly for the month you plan a content calendar, do all your research then, and cancel. Remember the no-refund rule and cancel before the next renewal date.

Cheaper ways to do the same job

Much of what BuzzSumo does for competitor content can be done by hand. Our competitor content audit shows how in about 90 minutes: pull their sitemap, sort what they publish by topic, work out how often they post, and find the gap worth filling.

For the rest, other tools publish lower prices:

ToolLowest published priceBetter for
SparkToroFree (3 previews a month), Personal $450 a yearWhat your audience reads, watches and follows
Awario$29 a month annuallyMentions of your brand or a rival
Brand24$199 a month annuallyMentions with sentiment and reach
Exploding Topics$39 a monthTopics that are growing in search

SparkToro answers a related question from the audience side, and its plans are broken down on our SparkToro pricing page. If you came to BuzzSumo for brand mentions rather than content research, Brand24 pricing covers a tool built for that job. The wider field is on our BuzzSumo alternatives page.

If the part you need is knowing when a rival publishes something new, Figo, ours, does that for $49 a month for three competitors: new pages and blog posts arrive in a Monday briefing alongside their ads, pricing and rankings. It does not measure shares or engagement across the web, which is BuzzSumo's real strength.

Verdict

BuzzSumo is good value for a team that researches content every week and uses the PR tools. It is expensive for a solo marketer who opens it twice a month. Start monthly, prove the habit, then switch to annual for the 20% saving, and never pay a year up front for a tool you have not used for a month.

Questions people ask

Does BuzzSumo offer discounts?

Annual billing saves about 20%. The pricing page FAQ also offers discounts for NGOs, registered non-profits and schools using BuzzSumo in the classroom, on request.

Can I pay BuzzSumo by invoice?

Only on Enterprise paid yearly, by bank transfer. Every other plan is paid by credit or debit card.

What counts as an alert in BuzzSumo?

A saved notification for one thing you want watched. BuzzSumo has six types (brand, keyword, content, backlink, competitor and journalist) and each one counts toward your plan's cap.

Is BuzzSumo worth it for a solo marketer?

Only if you research content every week. At $159 a month billed annually for one user, occasional use is cheaper with free methods and a short monthly subscription when a big project needs it.
