The best Google Alerts alternatives in 2026
Google Alerts only sees what Google Search indexes. These Google Alerts alternatives catch Reddit, forums, social and page changes, and most are free or cheap.
Google Alerts emails you when new results for a topic appear in Google Search. That is also its limit: it only sees what Google Search indexes and chooses to show, and it only reports new pages, never changes to old ones. The useful Google Alerts alternatives fill exactly those gaps: Reddit and forums, social conversation, and pages that change.
Prices below were read from each vendor's own pricing page on 4 October 2026. Google states no price for Alerts.
Why Google Alerts misses so much
Four reasons, all about how it works rather than it being broken.
It only sees Google Search. Google's own help page describes it as emails "when new results for a topic show up in Google Search". Anything Search does not index never reaches you: posts inside social apps and private groups, email newsletters, and anything said in a podcast or video that is not written on a page.
It can filter for you. The How many setting offers Only the best results or All results. On the first, Google decides what is worth sending.
It reports new results, not changes. A competitor rewriting their pricing page or swapping a headline is not a new result, so you never hear about it.
There is no memory. Each email stands alone. No dashboard, no counts over time, no sentiment.
To be fair, it takes thirty seconds, it picks up news and blog coverage that Google indexes, and for a business mentioned a few times a month it is often enough.
Fix your alerts before replacing them
Go to Google Alerts, type the topic, and click Show options. Then:
- How often: As-it-happens, At most once a day, or At most once a week.
- Sources: leave on Automatic, or narrow to News, Blogs, Web, Video, Books, Discussions or Finance.
- How many: choose All results.
- One alert per spelling. Brand names get written several ways; each needs its own alert.

Talkwalker Alerts, the free like for like
Talkwalker Alerts is free and emails results from news, blogs, discussion forums and Twitter in 22 languages, to any email address, as often as results appear. Talkwalker belongs to Hootsuite, and the alerts are its free front door.
Pick Talkwalker Alerts if you want a second net beside Google Alerts for nothing.
F5Bot, for Reddit
F5Bot is free for keyword alerts on Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters by email. Silver is $9.99 a month for 20 keywords and full post text, and Gold is $49.99 a month for 200 keywords with AI filtering, RSS and JSON feeds, and Slack and Discord. The Reddit monitoring guide shows how to set up searches that are not all noise.
Pick F5Bot if your customers talk about your category on Reddit.
Syften, for communities
Syften's Entry plan is $29.95 a month for three community filters and a 7 day archive. Standard at $49.95 adds 20 filters, AI filtering, Slack and an API. It covers Reddit, forums, Hacker News, GitHub and Slack communities, with Twitter and YouTube as paid add-ons. The trial is 14 days with no card.
Pick Syften if you sell to developers or a niche where conversation happens in communities rather than on news sites.
Visualping, for pages that change
Visualping's free plan watches five pages with 150 checks a month, about once a day each. Personal 1K is $14 a month billed monthly or $120 a year for 10 pages. Business 20K is $140 a month or $1,200 a year for 200 pages and five users. The wider choice is in Visualping alternatives.
Pick Visualping if you can name the exact pages you care about, such as a rival's pricing page or terms.
Brand24, when free stops being enough
Brand24 Individual is $199 a month billed annually ($249 monthly) for three keywords, 2,000 mentions a month and one user, with a 14 day trial and no card. You get mentions across sources in one place, with sentiment and reach. Mention, now owned by Agorapulse, sells a single Company plan through a demo with no price shown, which is why it is not in the table. The bigger picture is in the brand monitoring guide.
Pick Brand24 if the free tools keep missing mentions you needed to answer.
Figo, for what competitors actually do
Ours, so judge accordingly. A lot of people put competitor names into Google Alerts hoping to hear about launches and price changes. Alerts cannot catch most of those, because they are changes to existing pages or new ads rather than new search results.
Figo checks each competitor once a week: new and changed pages, blog posts, their pricing page, Google, Meta and TikTok ads, Instagram and Facebook posts, Reddit threads that mention them, and Google and Trustpilot reviews. You get a plain-English briefing on Monday, from $49 a month for three competitors. The head to head is in Figo vs Google Alerts.
Do not pick Figo if you need to hear about mentions of your own brand within hours. It runs once a week, and a free alert is faster for that.
When Google Alerts is enough
- You get a handful of mentions a month. Paying to monitor silence is a waste.
- News coverage is what matters. That is the part it handles.
- You will add a second free net. Google Alerts plus Talkwalker Alerts plus F5Bot costs nothing and covers a lot.
The short answer
Keep Google Alerts, set to All results, and add Talkwalker Alerts and F5Bot for free. Pay for Brand24 when the free tools start missing things that matter. For competitors' launches and price changes, no alert tool will help: you need a page monitor for a few known pages, or a competitor monitor for everything else.
Questions people ask
Why is my Google Alert not sending anything?
Usually nothing new matched in Google Search, or the alert is set to Only the best results. Open the alert's options, set How many to All results, and check the query matches how people actually write the name.
Can Google Alerts tell me when a web page changes?
No. It reports new results in Google Search, not edits to a page that already exists. A page monitor such as Visualping does that, and its free plan watches five pages.
What is the best Google Alerts alternative for Reddit?
F5Bot. It is free, emails you when a keyword appears on Reddit, Hacker News or Lobsters, and its paid tiers add more keywords, AI filtering and Slack.
Is there anything better than Google Alerts for free?
Talkwalker Alerts is the closest free equivalent and covers news, blogs, forums and Twitter. Run it alongside Google Alerts, and add F5Bot for Reddit, to cover ground Google Alerts alone does not.
