SE Ranking vs Semrush: when the cheaper tool is enough

SE Ranking vs Semrush on 4 October 2026: prices and seats side by side, which features match, where Semrush's extra cost buys something, and who should save.

SE Ranking vs Semrush is mostly a question of scale. SE Ranking covers the jobs most small teams actually use Semrush for (daily rank tracking, site audits, keyword and competitor research, backlinks) and charges much less once you add people, sites or tracked keywords. Semrush earns its premium if you need its larger databases, its PPC and traffic toolkits, or a free plan for occasional lookups.

For one person tracking a few hundred keywords, the two cost about the same. For a team of three tracking thousands, SE Ranking can cost a quarter as much.

Prices below were read from each vendor's own pricing page on 4 October 2026.

SE Ranking vs Semrush prices, side by side

PlanMonthly billingAnnual, per monthProjects or sitesKeywords tracked dailyUsers included
SE Ranking Core$129$103.20102,0001
SE Ranking Growth$279$223.20305,0003
Semrush SEO$139$117.3355001
Semrush Starter$199$165.1755001
Semrush Pro+$299$248.17151,5001
Semrush Advanced$549$455.67405,0001

Extra seats cost from $16 a month on SE Ranking and from $45 a month on Semrush. SE Ranking saves 20% on annual billing; Semrush says up to 17%. Both have Enterprise tiers priced on request. The full breakdowns are on the SE Ranking pricing and Semrush pricing pages.

The same workload, two bills

Here is one hypothetical team, priced on monthly billing. The totals are our arithmetic from the published prices.

Say you are a three-person marketing team, or a small agency, tracking 2,000 keywords a day across 10 sites.

  • SE Ranking: Core covers the 10 projects and 2,000 keywords. Add two seats at "from $16" and you pay from $161 a month.
  • Semrush: 2,000 daily keywords is more than Pro+ allows (1,500), so you need Advanced at $549, plus two users from $45. From $639 a month.

Now shrink it to one person tracking 500 keywords for five sites. SE Ranking Core is $129 and Semrush SEO is $139. Near enough the same.

The saving is real, but only when your keywords, sites or seats grow. If you are a single user with a small site, choose on features and data, not price.

SE Ranking's own competitor research page says it shows rivals' "organic and paid traffic, keywords they target in SEO and PPC campaigns, backlinks as well as ads". That list covers the everyday jobs a small team buys an SEO suite for.

Where Semrush's extra cost buys something

Bigger databases, by the vendors' own figures. Semrush's stats page lists 28.9 billion keywords, over 43 trillion links and 390 million referring domains. SE Ranking lists 2.9 trillion backlinks and 411 million referring domains on its backlink checker page, and keyword databases of 3.2 billion for Europe, 1.2 billion for North America and 548 million for Asia.

Two things stand out. Semrush's keyword set is larger. But the referring domain counts, which matter more than raw link counts for most link analysis, are in the same range.

PPC research and a traffic panel. If you run Google Ads, Semrush's Advertising toolkit (from $99 a month billed annually) shows competitors' ad copy and position changes. If you need total visits and channel mix, Traffic & Market does that. SE Ranking has paid search data, but no separate PPC toolkit and no traffic panel.

A free plan. Ten reports a day, forever, for someone who only looks things up occasionally.

Who should save money

  • Agencies tracking many client keywords. Rank tracking volume is where SE Ranking's pricing pulls furthest ahead. The best rank trackers for agencies roundup covers the specialists too.
  • Teams of two to five. Seats from $16 against from $45 add up fast.
  • Anyone who mostly uses Semrush for rankings and audits. You are paying for databases you do not open.

Who should stay with Semrush

  • PPC managers. The Advertising toolkit is the reason.
  • Teams in smaller markets where Semrush finds more of your competitors' keywords. Test it, as above.
  • People who need total traffic estimates next to their search data, in one login.

If you are weighing a third option, SE Ranking vs Ahrefs and Semrush vs Ahrefs cover the same ground from the other side. The SE Ranking alternatives page lists the rest.

And if neither is the job

If what you actually need is to know what competitors changed each week, rather than to research search, a weekly monitor fits better. Figo checks each competitor once a week (rankings, new pages, Google, Meta and TikTok ads, pricing changes, reviews) and sends a Monday briefing, from $49 a month. Ours, so judge accordingly. It does no backlink research or keyword research, so it sits next to either tool rather than replacing it.

Questions people ask

Is SE Ranking as good as Semrush?

For rank tracking, site audits and everyday keyword and competitor research it does the same jobs. Semrush's published databases are larger, and it sells PPC and total traffic toolkits that SE Ranking does not match.

Does SE Ranking have a free plan?

No. It has a 14 day trial with no card, which includes up to 10 projects and 750 tracked keywords a day. Semrush has a permanent free plan with 10 reports a day.

Can I move my projects from Semrush to SE Ranking?

SE Ranking's pricing page offers free migration from another platform when you take an annual plan. Check what the migration covers, and export anything you want to keep before you cancel.

Is SE Ranking cheaper than Semrush for one person?

Only slightly on price, $129 against $139 a month on monthly billing. The real difference is the allowance: 2,000 keywords tracked daily and 10 projects on SE Ranking Core, against 500 keywords and 5 websites on Semrush SEO.
