Semrush vs Moz: seats, tracked keywords and tools
Semrush vs Moz Pro on 4 October 2026: like-for-like costs for tracked keywords and seats, where each one's limits bite, and who should pick which.
Semrush vs Moz is a question of how much of the toolbox you will use. Moz Pro is the narrower, cheaper tool: organic search only, Domain Authority, seats included on its bigger plans, and an entry plan at $49. Semrush is the broader one: daily rank tracking, a much larger keyword database, and separate toolkits for paid search, traffic, local and social.
For the same number of tracked keywords and people, Moz costs roughly half. What Semrush gives you for the difference is breadth, scale and daily data.
Prices below were read from each vendor's own pricing page on 4 October 2026.
Semrush vs Moz on the same workload
Monthly billing, list prices, our arithmetic:
| Workload | Moz Pro | Semrush |
|---|---|---|
| One person, a few hundred keywords | Standard, $99: 300 keywords, 3 campaigns | SEO, $139: 500 keywords, 5 websites |
| Two people, 1,500 keywords | Medium, $179: 2 users included, 10 campaigns | Pro+ $299 plus 1 user from $45: from $344, 15 websites |
| Three people, 3,000 keywords | Large, $299: 3 users included, 25 campaigns | Advanced $549 plus 2 users from $45 each: from $639, 5,000 keywords, 40 websites |
The pattern holds at every level. Moz includes seats in Medium and Large, and Semrush charges for each one.
What the extra Semrush money buys at the higher levels: tracked keywords updated daily, more websites per plan, historical SEO data (from Pro+), and API data integration and SEO share of voice (Advanced). Moz's pricing table does not state how often its rankings update.
Plans and prices
| Moz Pro | Monthly | Annual, per month | Semrush | Monthly | Annual, per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $49 | Not shown | Free | $0 | $0 |
| Standard | $99 | $79 | SEO | $139 | $117.33 |
| Medium | $179 | $143 | Starter | $199 | $165.17 |
| Large | $299 | $239 | Pro+ | $299 | $248.17 |

Moz labels its annual prices as billed "for your first year" and does not state the renewal price. On the day we checked, it also ran a "save up to 40%" banner ending that day. Semrush shows annual savings of up to 17%. Extra seats are $49 a month on Moz and from $45 a month on Semrush.
Detail on both: Moz Pro pricing and Semrush pricing.
Where Moz's limits bite
Keyword research on Standard. 150 keyword queries a month. Medium has 5,000 and Large 15,000. Extra queries are cheap ($10 a month per 10,000), so budget for them rather than downgrading your research.
Three campaigns on Standard. Each tracked site is a campaign. Extra campaigns are $10 a month each, and extra tracked keywords $20 a month per 200.
Overages are separate. The comparison table says "Overages not included", so the add-ons above are how you grow.
Where Semrush's costs creep
Seats. From $45 a month each, on every plan. For a team, it adds up quickly.
History. Historical SEO data starts at Pro+ ($299). On SEO and Starter you see the present only.
Toolkits. Paid search research is in the Advertising toolkit, from $99 a month billed annually. Total traffic estimates are in Traffic & Market, at $289 a month billed annually. The headline plan does not include either.
What only Semrush does
- Paid search research. Competitors' ad positions, position changes and ad copies.
- A traffic panel. Total visits and channel mix for any site, not just organic estimates.
- More toolkits in one login. Local, content, social and PR toolkits are listed on the same pricing page.
- A bigger keyword database. 28.9 billion keywords across 142 geo databases on Semrush's stats page, against 1.25 billion keyword suggestions on Moz's Keyword Explorer page.
What Moz does better
- Price for a small team. Seats included in Medium and Large make a two or three person team noticeably cheaper.
- Domain Authority. The metric many clients and site owners already quote, visible free with a Moz account and the MozBar. Our Ahrefs vs Moz page covers DA against Ahrefs' DR.
- A simpler product. One plan family, limits listed in one table, no toolkits to assemble.
- A cheaper start. $49 for one website, or $99 for Standard.
Pick Semrush if
- You run Google Ads alongside SEO and want both in one login.
- You need daily rankings, historical data or a traffic panel.
- You research keywords heavily, especially in more than one country.
Pick Moz Pro if
- You are a team of two or three doing SEO only, and seat costs matter.
- Your clients or managers speak in Domain Authority.
- You want the cheapest credible plan and can live with smaller research allowances.

A different job entirely
If what you actually need is to know what competitors changed each week, rather than to do SEO research, Figo checks each competitor once a week (rankings and estimated traffic, new pages, Google, Meta and TikTok ads, pricing, reviews) and sends a Monday briefing, from $49 a month. Ours, so judge accordingly. It has no keyword research, backlinks or Domain Authority, so keep Moz or Semrush for SEO work.
Questions people ask
Does Moz Pro have PPC tools?
Its pricing table lists SEO research, rank tracking, site crawling and AI visibility features, and no paid search research. Semrush sells PPC research in its separate Advertising toolkit.
Which has the bigger keyword database?
Semrush, by the vendors' own figures. Semrush lists 28.9 billion keywords. Moz lists 1.25 billion keyword suggestions and 180 million ranking keywords in Keyword Explorer.
Is Semrush's free plan better than Moz's free account?
They do different things. Semrush's free plan gives one demo project and 10 reports a day across its tools. Moz's free account gives limited Link Explorer, Keyword Explorer and MozBar access, including Domain Authority for any site.
Do Moz and Semrush both track AI search now?
Yes. Moz plans include 150, 300 or 600 tracked prompts across GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity. Semrush's Starter, Pro+ and Advanced plans track 50, 100 or 200 prompts daily.
